The High Note

Reminds me of those good old days
when the food was cooking
the energy was high
the laughter was frequent
and smiles generous.
Of those old, worn-edge memories
of sound, of scent, of sights dulled but bright,
of the stories told late into the night—
of the mornings that felt too early
of the days that never were too long
of the candy shops in Santa Fe
and the traditional spanish songs.
We never had want for anything
save that wishing for time to stop
chastising ourselves to “remember this”

“this moment will never come again.”
“This is all you get.”
“Remember this.”

So many things pass on in our little lives that seem so very big.
But it reminds me of those simple days
when Vivir meant to Celebrate, and to Live.
